One of the most interesting things I've learned at the Internet Librarian conference is that most communities have these free book repositories where you can go in, find a book, and then just take it home for a while to read. This seems like a great way to save money - I'll have to try it. As if that wasn't enough, you can use Google, Yahoo or other search engines to check to see if they have the book before you go over. In Google, you can type "find in a library" and then the book title, and that will hook you up with the WorldCat database of libraries and let you chose your Zip code to find the book in a library near you. Yahoo even has a special tool bar with an option for searching into libraries which they were showing off rather proudly here at the conference.
